Sitting proudly at the border of the cities of Cleveland and Shaker Heights, Shaker Square is the town center for the surrounding neighborhoods. “If you take away the municipal boundaries, Shaker Square is the town center for a city of over 200,000 people,” says Peter Rubin, CEO of The Coral Company, “For generations, Shaker Square was a neighborhood destination. We are dedicated to ensuring that the offerings at Shaker Square – both shopping and dining choices, as well as the gathering spaces – will meet the needs of the residents of Shaker Square and become the destination spot it once was.”

Shaker Square’s public space – the green space and the sidewalk areas – has been unchanged in the Square’s 75-year history. Rubin and his team has given much thought on how to use and to make these areas attractive to make Shaker Square a regional family destination spot for coffee, dinner or a performance.
Plans will include turning landscape gardens in each quadrant into outdoor museums by adding sculptures and artwork, possibly from local art schools and artists. “I see Shaker Square becoming an art gallery and an artists’ studio without walls,” states Rubin, “I also envision art students coming to Shaker Square for inspiration and creation of new art.”
For the performance arts, a complete outdoor theater will be created on the southern half of the square or people to enjoy concerts or plays. Meanwhile, the northern half will have reading gardens, water features, and places to sit for contemplation and people watching.
“Shaker Square is a gateway to the Heights with a long rich history. I am eagerly looking forward to an equally strong future – one filled with great entertainment, dining and convenient shopping and renewed beauty,” states Judy Rawson, Mayor of Shaker Heights.
